About the Bird: This shy and elusive bird specializes in living in the humid, dense tangles of coastal mangrove swamps in the southeastern United States. As temperatures rise 探花精选's climate models forecast the Mangrove Cuckoo鈥檚 potential habitat will increase, only that will likely put the bird鈥檚 needs in direct conflict with human development鈥攅specially in Florida. The species will also have to contend with climate-related threats such as increased spring heat waves and heavy rain.
About the Artist: has an MFA from the School of Visual Arts and runs a small farm to support her art habit in Norwich, Connecticut. The Mangrove Cuckoo appealed to her as a subject because it is common to the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Haiti, and Florida. 鈥淭he mural sits in a neighborhood full of families from these same places鈥 she says. 鈥淔lags representing these countries are painted beneath the Mangrove Cuckoo as a happy symbol of unity.鈥
